01 / Find the right help
What is wrong with your garage door?
You do not need to diagnose the fault. These observations help us prepare for the visit. Stop using a door that is damaged, crooked or moving unpredictably.
This guide covers repair symptoms and what to expect from an inspection. For our full service range, real installation projects and showroom details, visit the Portland garage door team. Planning a replacement? Explore new garage doors.
The door is stuck closed
Tell us whether the opener makes a sound, whether a spring has a visible gap, and whether a vehicle is trapped. Avoid repeated attempts to lift a damaged door.
Explore service 02It stops or reverses
Describe where the door stops and any visible sensor lights or obstruction. Do not bypass sensors or increase force to overcome a fault.
Explore service 03The door is crooked or off track
Keep people away and leave the door in place. Loose cables, bent tracks and damaged rollers require an inspection before the door moves again.
Explore service 04A panel is damaged
A photo and the door model help establish whether a compatible section may be available. Panel fit, weight and the remaining door condition all matter.
Explore service02 / A Portland installation
There’s a door inside this garage door.
A bike ride, a trip to the washer or a quick visit to the garage does not always need the whole door open. This Portland installation combines a three-layer insulated Amarr garage door with an integrated, steel-framed pass door.
The walk-through was built into the door assembly. This project is an example to discuss—not a reason to cut an opening in an existing door.

03 / Know what happens next
A clear plan before the work begins.
- 01
Tell us about the opening
Share the address, door position and access concerns. For a new door, tell us what you want to change and bring photos or approximate measurements.
- 02
Check the complete system
Door panels, springs, tracks, cables and the opener work together. The assessment needs to consider their condition and compatibility, plus the available space.
- 03
Review your options
Discuss the diagnosis or design, parts, labor, fees and what is included. Separate essential work from optional upgrades before approving the quote.
- 04
Understand the finished work
Review operation, care and the written terms for the selected products and work. Ask about any remaining limitations and keep the job paperwork.
04 / Pricing without guesswork
Know the visit fee. Understand the repair.
An $89 diagnostic fee applies to most service visits and is additional to parts, labor, and tax. If D&L completes the approved repair or installation during the same visit, the fee is credited toward that work. After-hours or urgent-service surcharges may apply.
Final pricing depends on the diagnosis, compatible parts, door size, access and agreed work. New-door estimates and repair diagnostics are different appointments; tell us which one you need.

Portland garage door repair questions
How much does a Portland garage door repair visit cost?
An $89 diagnostic fee applies to most service visits and is additional to parts, labor and tax. If D&L completes the approved repair or installation during the same visit, the fee is credited toward that work. After-hours or urgent-service surcharges may apply. Confirm the applicable terms when booking.
Should I replace the opener if the door will not lift?
Not necessarily. A broken spring, damaged cable or binding door can prevent lifting even when the opener runs. The door and opener should be inspected together before you approve a replacement. Do not keep cycling the opener against a damaged or heavy door.
Can you fix a door that has come off its tracks?
D&L can assess off-track doors and the condition of the tracks, rollers, cables and panels. The repair depends on the cause and any resulting damage. Keep the area clear and do not try to force the door back into its tracks.
What information should I have ready when I call?
Share the service address, door position, visible damage and whether a vehicle or entry is blocked. A photo taken from a safe distance and an accessible opener model label can help. You do not need to identify the failed part yourself.
When is replacement worth considering?
Compare repair with replacement when damage affects the door structure, matching sections are unavailable, or several components need work. Review the scope and condition of the whole system. A single broken component does not automatically mean you need a new door.
Do you repair commercial garage doors too?
Yes. Tell us the business address, door size, operating pattern and any delivery or access restrictions. Commercial systems may need different parts, access equipment and inspection terms. Use our Portland commercial service page for that service path.
