What to know before you choose

A homeowner who likes horizontal lines but wants to compare a steel construction with other door styles. Review physical finish samples and window placement before deciding from a screen image.

Use the Planks model table in the brochure, not the family name alone. Confirm opening size, panel layout, glass, finish, track clearance, and the exact model on the quote.

Specification source: C.H.I. product information (opens in a new tab). Also see the brochure and model-specific notes below.

Construction
Two-sided steel, 2-inch sections
Insulation
Polyurethane
Published R-value
17.54
Published U-factor
0.19
Appearance
Horizontal plank texture

Thermal figures need context. R-value and U-factor describe different measurements; they are not interchangeable. The manufacturer’s configuration and test notes matter, particularly when windows or construction change. Do not rank these doors on the largest R-value alone.

Official manufacturer documents

Manuals, installation information & brochures

Choose the document that matches your model, production version, and hardware. PDFs open on the manufacturer’s host; download and support pages take you to the manufacturer’s document selector.

Documents remain on their official hosts so you can check for revisions. A working link does not establish compatibility with a different model.

How to identify the right door specification

  1. Read the equipment label. Look for the manufacturer and model label on the inside of the door. If it is missing, use your original invoice or ask for an inspection.
  2. Match the configuration. Match the construction, dimensions, glazing, track, and spring arrangement. A brochure can cover several different doors.
  3. Read the document scope first. Check its model list, language, revision, and warnings before using a diagram or procedure.
  4. Stop if the equipment does not match. Send clear photos through our contact page rather than guessing a part or adjustment.
If the door is crooked, a cable is loose, a spring is broken, or the door drops unexpectedly, stop operating it and arrange service. Do not adjust spring tension, loosen bottom brackets, or bypass safety devices. Installation documents are technical references, not a substitute for appropriate training.

Your Planks 2328 questions

Are all C.H.I. Planks doors insulated the same way?

No. The brochure separates polystyrene and polyurethane constructions by model number. The 2328 entry uses polyurethane. Confirm the complete model and configuration rather than applying this guide’s figures to every Planks door.

Is the plank appearance actual wood?

The 2328 specification is steel. Appearance and finish choices are separate from the underlying construction. Ask to see a current sample of the proposed finish in daylight before placing an order.

Compare within garage doors

Compare the published specifications, then read each guide’s fit and document notes. A product-family range is not an exact-model rating.
